Job Description: The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 22,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.
The Recreation & Culture Department seeks a Head Summer Camp Leader that is a creative and organized individual to supplement their regular staff during the summer months. Responsibilities involve front-line leadership in support of summer camps or programs, including leading a 9-week summer day camp program for 6–12-year-olds. The Head Summer Camp Leader assists a superior in planning assigned recreational activities and schedules, implements and leads such activities as directed. The Head Summer Camp Leader also assists with the supervision and training of program leaders and volunteers and is responsible for the safe and proper use of equipment and facilities.
Duties:
•Provides front-line leadership and guidance to summer camp participants, staff and volunteers according to the nature and requirements of the program or camp;
•Assists a superior in planning assigned recreational activities; and schedules, implements and leads such activities as directed;
•Addresses concerns from customers and parents; and troubleshoots program and service related issues as they arise;
•Ensures program supplies are maintained; purchases supplies as needed; and completes relevant reports, forms and requests;
•Enforces rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding proper use of equipment and facilities; and renders minor first aid when required;
•Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices including the safe and proper use of equipment and facilities;
•Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation;
•Ability to assist with the supervision and training of program leaders and volunteers;
•Ability to plan, schedule, implement and provide front-line leadership to summer camp participants, staff and volunteers and provide guidance and assistance to volunteers regarding instructional duties and safe and proper use of equipment and facilities;
•Ability to exercise sound judgement, to resolve problems and to make decisions in accordance with the applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
•Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, staff and volunteers in supplying information, providing direction and assistance related to the program planning a camp, class, event or practice;
•Ability to meet deadlines and to function effectively during busy periods;
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, program leaders, volunteers and program participants;
•Performs related work as required.
Educational Requirements: •Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by experience in children’s programming and some related experience leading children, plus some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
•Skill in promoting children’s participation in activities;

Skill Requirements: •High Five Certification is an asset, and not a requirement;
•Willing to obtain Standard First Aid certificate by hire date;
•Asset, but not required, to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 and Class 4 BC driver’s license with a demonstrated safe driving record by the appointment’s start date (please visit www.icbc.com for criteria regarding licensing);

Salary: $24.39- $28.56 hourly (2021 rates) with selected benefits offered.
