Job Description: The City of Abbotsford’s Recreation & Culture division is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated professional with proven leadership and program development skills to join their dynamic team as a temporary Recreation Coordinator focusing in the area of Volunteer Services.
Duties: In this exciting role, you are responsible for the research, planning, development, implementation and administration of comprehensive community recreation and volunteer programs, evaluating program results and making recommendations to improve programs and services and developing and monitoring program budgets.

Strong leadership and supervisory skills are essential as you hire, empower, train, mentor and evaluate a team of recreation staff and volunteers. Your ability to build and maintain strong relationships will make you an asset to the team as you liaise with internal and external contacts and promote and publicize interest and participation in program activities. Your excellent communication, organizational, administrative and critical thinking skills and abilities, combined with a strong commitment to customer service excellence will guide your success in this position.

Educational Requirements: To be considered for this position, you must have:
• Completion of a post-secondary degree in Recreation & Leisure Service Management or Business Administration supplemented with a minimum of two courses in public recreation program management/development.
• Three years of experience in public recreation and/or volunteer program development with exposure to a variety of focus areas including one year of related supervisory experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence.
Salary: This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $34.76 to $40.86 per hour. Please note that shift work is required, including evenings & weekends.
Additional Information: Areas of assignment for this specific role focus on Volunteer Services but may also include, and is not limited to: Aquatic Services, Sports and Fitness Services, Community Services, Community and Civic Events, Community Recreation Services, Adult/Seniors Services, Youth Services, and Arts and Culture Services.
