Job Description: Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Utilities Maintenance Worker (from approx. March 4, 2024 to December 20, 2024) to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Utilities Operations Department, Water Distribution group. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will assist in waterworks operations, maintenance and repair tasks while exercising independent judgement, initiative and safe work practices.

Responsibilities
• Install watermains and fittings to grade
• Build valve chambers, manholes and catch basins
• Tap watermains for service connections and installation
• Install shoring, check service gauges, repair valves and perform routine maintenance on hydrants
• Maintain pump stations and mobile generators
• Conduct unidirectional watermain flushing operations including testing water for chlorine content and adding dechlorination tablets as appropriate
• Guide equipment operators and assist in the safe operation of equipment
• Perform related work as required

Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and sound experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools/equipment used in waterworks construction, repairs and maintenance
• Considerable knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions and standards applicable to utilities operations
• Ability to stay current with advances in waterworks maintenance, repair and construction techniques
• Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used

Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
• BC Class 5 (full-privilege) Driver’s License. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date.
