Duties: Specific responsibilities include: • Provide professional planning expertise on complex and diverse projects in the development and achievement of the community’s goals; • Policy development and research; • Interacting with development proponents, the public, staff from various City departments and government agencies and Council; • Providing leadership to and management of other planning staff through coaching, resolving interpretation matters, and providing guidance on day-to-day procedural and operational issues; and • Being a problem-solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills and be expected to develop innovative solutions and approaches to reconcile planning challenges. Educational Requirements: In order to be considered for this position you must have: • A Master's in Urban Planning, or a combination of experience and undergraduate degree in a related field(s); • A minimum of 8 years of development planning experience preferably with a local government or the private development industry; • Membership or eligibility for full membership in the Planning Institute of BC; and • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and laws applicable to the planning profession.
