Job Description: As an integral part of the management team, the Assistant Chief of Operations is responsible for providing leadership, operational expertise and financial accountability. Working closely with key fire department and city staff this position will be critical in helping Abbotsford Fire Rescue Services meet the current and future needs of one Canada’s fastest growing communities.
Duties: The Assistant Chief of Operations will be responsible for oversight of two Suppression Platoons and specialty programs. Additionally, this position in collaboration with their fellow Chief Officers provides oversight to the Abbotsford Fire Department Paid On-Call program. Working with Platoon Captains and reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, the successful applicant will play a key role in managing the day to day fire department operations for British Columbia’s fifth largest city.
Educational Requirements: As the ideal candidate, you will possess:

• Minimum Grade 12 and Fire Officer 2 certification or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum Fire Service Instructor 2 certification or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of 15 years of directly related experience in the fire and emergency services
• A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement and a safe driving record
• A Diploma or Degree or a combination of related post-secondary education and experience
• Supervisory experience in a composite unionized and paid-on-call fire service organization


Skill Requirements:
The successful candidate will have post-secondary education in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function combined with relevant and sustained leadership experience. A combination of education and experience, in lieu of a post-secondary education will be considered. This role requires excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills. This role will also require extensive knowledge of principles and practices related to modern fire, rescue and emergency medical service delivery and evaluation.

The candidate will be an inclusive, forward thinking and transparent leader who motivates and engages others while making evidence-based decisions with clarity and diplomacy. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is also an asset. The Assistant Chief of Operations will need to support the on-call duty officer rotation for response to greater alarms and activation of the City of Abbotsford Emergency Operations Centre.
Salary: The salary range for this position is $141,486.80 to $166,948.60 per year.
