Job Description: The Abbotsford Police Department, with staff strength in excess of 300, is committed to making Abbotsford the safest city in BC. Youth Outreach Worker ??? Full Time
(1 Year Contract, with renewal options for up to 2 years)
The Youth Outreach Worker will join the Abbotsford Police Department???s Gang Intervention Team in the PATHWAYS Program. This program???s aim is to create a long-term, integrated approach to combat gang violence. Through the PATHWAYS Program, the Youth Outreach Worker will provide culturally appropriate gang prevention and intervention services to at-risk youths and young adults.
Main Responsibilities: ??? Conduct risk assessments in accordance with the PATHWAYS strategy ??? Perform needs assessments and prepare Individualized Action Plans for each participant
??? Meet with participants and their family/guardians to assess needs and focus on goal setting to mitigate risk factors and enhance protective factors ??? Develop linkages with community agencies to establish appropriate services for each participant
??? Provide relevant referrals to employment and job skills training, mentorships, and internship opportunities
??? Assist and participate in community meetings, workshops, and training for youth, parents, and service providers
??? Willingness to accompany operational police officers in unmarked police vehicles for the purpose of providing gang prevention and intervention services
Qualifications and Requirements: ??? Related diploma or bachelor???s degree in community/social work, criminology, or related field, and/or equivalent experience working with at-risk youths ??? Cultural competence with at-risk youths and marginalized and diverse communities ??? Knowledge of information-sharing practices and protocols ??? Knowledge of case management ??? Knowledge of trauma-informed practices ??? Ability to work collaboratively with community partners, staff, and participants ??? Ability to work independently and in a team environment
