Job Description: Does the career you envision include playing a central role in providing for the safety of your community? Can you see yourself investigating the cause of a fire in the morning, before reviewing the fire and life safety aspects of a construction project in the afternoon, followed by a presentation where you provide fire safety education to a community group?
Duties: The District of Mission is seeking an experienced, self-motivated and innovative individual with excellent communication skills to join the Mission Fire Rescue Service. In this technical role, you will be responsible for the development and operation of programs and policy in regards to fire prevention, inspection and public education programs. Additionally, you will be responsible for investigating fire and reporting your findings.
Educational Requirements: As the ideal candidate, you will have completed a certificate or diploma in fire protection engineering or an equivalent, along with recognized courses in fire inspections, public education and investigations (e.g. IFSAC and/or ProBoard Level 1 Fire Inspector, Fire & Life Safety Educator, Fire Service Instructor, Fire Investigation; along with BC Fire and Building Code courses) and have some experience in the fire service. A valid Class 5 BC Driver???s license is required.
Skill Requirements: You will have considerable knowledge of the federal and provincial legislation pertaining to fire prevention and fire safety and superior knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices used in fire prevention and fire investigation activities. You will have an understanding of municipal bylaws relating to fire prevention and fire safety. You have the ability to develop and deliver effective written and oral presentations to public groups and you are able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external groups and agencies.
Salary: The hours for this position are 70 hours bi-weekly on a 9-day fortnight (extended hours for 9 days and 1 day off every two weeks). The monthly wage for this IAFF position is $8,240 plus a comprehensive benefit package.
