The Community Art Programs Coordinator???s primary role is engaging directly with artists and bringing the public together through ambitious collaborative art projects. Each artists??? project you launch will engage community participation, whether it is to create a giant puppet to parade at a festival, join a community dance project, or add to a mural sharing a community???s stories. Through their participation residents will be inspired, learn new skills, and celebrate their collective victories.
The Community Art Programs Coordinator will be based out of the new Clayton Community Centre and will balance their focus between Clayton facility programming and initiatives across the City. This work includes developing and coordinating the Clayton Artist in Residence program, coordinating exhibitions at the Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery, managing community art displays, supporting Non-Profit Arts Organisations that operate within Civic Facilities, and conceiving and implementing additional projects that respond to community needs. This position will be part of a creative and interdisciplinary team responsible for implementing performing arts, visual arts, woodworking, and artist in residence programs. Your ability to coordinate the Artists in Residence Program will be evident in your knowledge of art and artists and the theories and practices of community cultural development. You will also be able to demonstrate your project management skills, efficiency with resources, and examples of problem-solving effectiveness employed from realizing projects from start to finish. Your exceptional verbal and written communication skills ??? whether communicated in promotional materials or public speaking events - will be documented in your resume with multiple examples that demonstrate you value relationship building and community development.
Duties: We are looking for candidates that can demonstrate experience in:
??? Community consultation processes, outreach and engagement strategies and effective meeting facilitation
??? Project management related to public art and/or community art, including coordinating artist calls and selection processes, contract development, reviewing concepts for feasibility, project oversight including recruiting the advice of technical experts when needed, project documentation and analysis reports
??? Planning, developing and delivering community art programming including work with committees and community organizations
??? Supervision and leadership of other staff and volunteers, including team building responsibilities
??? Developing, maintaining and reporting on both operating and project budgets
??? Microsoft Office Suite and basic skills in Photoshop and other Adobe software as needed
Educational Requirements: ??? A university degree or post-secondary diploma in fine arts or arts administration or related discipline.
??? 3 years of progressively responsible experience.
??? or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skill Requirements: The successful candidate will be based at Clayton Community Centre and will be required to travel to other facilities within the City.
