Job Description: The District of Mission is seeking an experienced, self-motivated individual to lead the bylaw team in investigating bylaw violations and complaints and achieving compliance with the municipality???s regulatory bylaws, policies and procedures. This position will involve extensive public relations contact which requires the exercise of independent judgment, action, tact and diplomacy.
Duties: In addition to investigating complaints, responsibilities include interpreting and explaining bylaws and regulations, recommending changes and updating bylaws and associated documents and facilitating neighborhood disputes. You will process unusual, sensitive and contentious bylaw files and also prepare a variety of reports and correspondence. You will prepare and assemble documentation for legal proceedings, liaise with legal counsel on file progress and appear in court and at adjudication hearings as required. This role assigns, reviews and oversees the work of lower level Bylaw Enforcement staff and provides guidance and training as necessary. This role also performs as a Licence Inspector in accordance with the Business Licence Bylaw.
Educational Requirements: As the ideal candidate, you will have a Degree or Diploma in Criminology and you will have completed Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level 1 and 2 through the Justice Institute of British Columbia (or recognized equivalent) and have 5 years??? experience as a bylaw enforcement officer (or recognized equivalent).
Skill Requirements: You will have excellent organizational skills; the ability to problem-solve; work independently and you will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as you will represent the Bylaw Enforcement division in various internal and external meetings, provide advice on bylaw related concerns and issues and assist other department and external agencies in their enforcement of regulations and bylaws. You will also be a proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). You will have a valid Class 5 driver???s license and a clean Criminal Record.
Salary: The 2020 hourly wage rate for this full-time CUPE position is $42.46 plus a comprehensive benefit package including the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP).
Additional Information: We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
