Job Description: We are the third largest regional district in BC and deliver over 100 services to six municipalities and eight electoral areas. Our region covers more than 13,000 km2 stretching from the City of Abbotsford to Boston Bar. In short, we have a little bit of everything. The Parks department is responsible for operations and maintenance of 10 regional parks, 3 regional trails, and a number of community parks and trails in the Fraser Valley which sees over 1,000,000 visitations annually.
Duties: We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic self-motivated individual to fill the time-duration position of Park Technician. The term of this position is from February, 2020 to approximately February 2021. Reporting to the Manager of Park Operations, the successful candidate will contribute to resource conservation management and efficient operation of regional parks by providing assistance and support to Parks Assistants, contractors and volunteers in the field; inspecting parks, facilities and services; implementing effective preventative maintenance programs and undertaking general facilities maintenance; open communication with other agencies; develop and lead interpretive programs and lectures; and review and provide recommendations to improve current park information including signage, website and brochure content.

Educational Requirements: ??? Post-secondary two-year Technician???s Diploma in fish, wildlife and recreation or related discipline plus minimum two years??? experience in the field; or equivalent combination of education/experience;
Skill Requirements: ??? Thorough understanding of safety policies and procedures and the ability to direct others in an emergency;
??? Proficient in the latest computer technology and programs;
??? Knowledge of the vegetation and wildlife of the Fraser Valley, and local community interest groups and their respective issues;
??? Strong written and verbal communication skills which include the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and write in a clear and concise manner;
??? Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization;
??? Ability to work independently and solve problems quickly by responding appropriately;
??? Must possess a valid Driver???s Licence.
Salary: The wage rate for this bargaining unit position is $26.32 per hour plus 10.6 percent in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required six month probationary period, the wage rate will increase to $30.96 per hour plus 10.6 percent in lieu of benefit.
