The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Utilities Operations Superintendent to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Utilities Operations Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Operations Manager, in this exempt position you are responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Utilities Operating group. You will supervise and manage staff, participate in operational planning, make recommendations on design, estimates, inspection, and maintenance functions for water, drainage and sanitary systems. You will assess the work of others, ensure work is within established guidelines, liaise with other agencies, answer enquiries and resolve issues with the public, developers and consultants. This position is accountable to the Utilities Operations Manager and will perform complex technical work in compliance to municipal standards relating to a variety of operational utility engineering functions, assist with recruitment, operational planning, training and employee performance. The successful candidate will draft correspondence, review studies, prepare draft specifications, terms of reference, ensure work safe procedures, and review maintenance procedures and contract documents.

Your education will include BCIT or equivalent Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma and a minimum of 7 years of directly related experience obtained in a municipal engineering environment of a Municipal Government Engineering Department or a Municipal Consulting Engineering Company, or equivalent. You will have working knowledge of engineering principles, terminology, materials, equipment, practices and techniques as applied to the various areas of the Utilities operating group and knowledge of applicable Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations, policies and bylaws. The position requires knowledge of occupational hazards, safety regulations, labour relations contracts, administration, and recruitment processes.
