Job Description: The City of Surrey???s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is seeking a collaborative, creative and community-minded Volunteer Specialist to join our Heritage Services team. This position is responsible for planning and implementing the recruitment, screening, placement, orientation, training, recognition, and evaluation of the heritage volunteer program. Working as part of a team, the Volunteer Specialist assists staff of the Historic Stewart Farm, Museum of Surrey, Surrey Archives to support community volunteerism and work experience students. The position collaborates with community agencies to promote and attract volunteers to a variety of heritage placements.
Duties: In this role, some typical duties include:
??? writing and coordinating promotional material to attract volunteers;
??? meeting with potential volunteers to assess skills, experience and interests for placement; providing orientations for new volunteers;
??? developing an annual volunteer recognition and appreciation plan;
??? planning and coordinating recognition and appreciation events and programs;
??? developing recruitment strategies for various volunteer placements.
??? planning volunteer strategies including presentations for events and community support agencies;
??? planning and implementing volunteer training sessions;
??? managing and inputting data into a volunteer management software program;
??? liaising with secondary and post-secondary institutions to promote internship and work experience opportunities in Heritage Services; and
??? maintaining volunteer records including recruitment forms and training manuals.
The successful applicant must have considerable understanding and knowledge of volunteer management programs within the cultural and/or non-profit sector; knowledge of volunteer engagement and community development theory and practices; effective communication skills both verbal and written; strong interpersonal and public relations skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with heritage colleagues, community agencies, educational career counselors and the public. Experience within an arts or heritage setting would be an asset.
Educational Requirements: Qualifications
You must also have:
??? completed Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in a discipline relevant to the specialty from a recognized postsecondary
institution
??? 2 years progressively responsible experience in area of specialty, including supervision, or an equivalent acceptable
combination of training and experience.
??? a current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate (or acceptable equivalent)
??? a valid BC Driver???s License with a safe driving history.

??? This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
