The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Trails and Natural Areas Maintenance Worker to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Parks Operations Department.

Reporting to the Trees, Trails, Horticulture and Natural Areas Superintendent, you will be responsible in this unionized position for inspecting and maintaining trails, park premises and facilities such as fences, bridges, stairs, railings and viewing platforms for physical conditions, vegetation encroachment and safety concerns. You will plant shrubs, trees and ground covers in naturalized areas and provide input in decisions related to planning, organizing and administering construction, renovation and maintenance activities. This position will supervise and check the work of seasonal helpers and direct the on-site work of truck drivers and equipment operators engaged in trail resurfacing and parks maintenance operations as required. The successful candidate will operate a variety of power and hand tools, heavy machinery such as a mini-excavator, front end loader, tractor flail mower, skid steer and ride-on mower used in routine trail construction and maintenance tasks at ground level, buck trees, and perform related parks maintenance operations.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by Horticulture, Forestry or Landscape Construction courses or an equivalent combination of training and experience with a minimum of two years demonstrated trails maintenance experience. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform a variety of parks maintenance tasks, inspect trails and park facilities to identify and record hazards and take corrective action as required. It is necessary to have considerable knowledge of the assigned park and trail areas and of the rules and regulations governing the use of the same.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a police information check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay is $30.23 per hour (2019 rates) plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
