Job Description: Employees in this position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and will perform a variety of customer service, marketing and clerical functions supplemented by more complex administrative tasks. They will welcome and provide information to visitors relating to tourism, relocation to Mission and other general requests for information.
Duties: Respond to public and staff inquiries on matters related to the VIC, providing preliminary information and advice regarding various departmental and tourism matters, policies, trends, statistics, re-directing more complex inquiries to appropriate staff as necessary.
Manage social media networks and website accounts.

Prepare a variety of desk-top publishing documents with extensive utilization of computerized graphics.

Prepare and maintain a variety of word processing documents and tourism-related publications including brochures, records, statistical reports, forms, tables, spreadsheets, manuals, blog posts and guides.

Assist with creating correspondence and reports including tourism reports and semi-annual reports.

Enter statistics of all visitor contacts in the Destination BC online system.

Organize and attend trade shows or other similar off-site public events on behalf of the municipality and the VIC.

Liaise with the Tourism Committee and the tourism industry.

Maintain an inventory of retail and relevant supplies for the VIC.

Maintain supplies and information on products and services, including brochure rack maintenance.

Ensure the VIC maintains a clean and welcoming environment.

Process payments and maintain basic departmental financial records.

Perform program research and preliminary analysis duties.

Provide a wide variety of administrative support to the Economic Development Office.

File and retrieve documents both electronically and in hard format.

Function as the departmental records management coordinator.

Organize, prepare agendas, attend, and record and distribute minutes for a variety of meetings.

Process incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Prioritize assigned work based on departmental priorities and schedules.

Operate a variety of office equipment related to the performance of duties.

As required, assist with the VIC volunteer program ensuring adequate training, materials, uniforms and support is available.

Provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff or VIC volunteers.

Participate in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.

As required, assist to perform tasks of other staff in the department.
Educational Requirements: You will have a diploma in tourism management, marketing or graphic design.
Skill Requirements: Sound knowledge of tourism, sales and marketing principles and practices.

Sound knowledge of local, regional and provincial tourism products.

Ability to perform a variety of complex administrative and clerical functions with a minimum of supervision.

Ability to respond to a variety of circumstances in an administratively sensitive manner.

Ability to prioritize and balance a variety of assigned tasks and complex procedures to meet required schedules.

Ability to be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Extensive word processing and data entry skills as well as a demonstrable ability to maintain basic financial records and to learn and apply new computer applications.
Salary: $31.59 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package including the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP).
Additional Information: Work weekends primarily between June and August and some evenings as required.
