The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 2 temporary full-time (from approx. January 28, 2019 to approx. December 20, 2019) Junior Water Systems Operator to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Utilities Operations Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Operations Manager, in this unionized position, the successful applicant will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and servicing a variety of pumping station equipment such as pumps, control equipment, diesel, propane and natural gas standby engines, cross-connection control devices, gauges, counters, records and related equipment to ensure the effective operation of water pumping stations and perform routine repair tasks. You will assist in the installation of pumps and related equipment as well as the more complex repair and servicing of pump station equipment including pressure reducing valves. The successful candidate will test, clean, and repair system water meters both in the shop and field, including the installation of meters and recording water meter data on a scheduled basis. This position may direct the work of one or more workers engaged in manual tasks and drive a service truck in order to maintain routine records related to the work and perform other related work as required.

Your education will include completion of grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work and sound experience in water systems work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of a variety of pumping and pressure reducing stations and water treatment systems is essential for this role. You also have the ability to inspect operations, perform routine maintenance, repair and installation tasks on pumping equipment and systems and assist with more complex tasks.

The CUPE rate of pay is $34.68 per hour (2019 rates) plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
