SCOPE
Reporting to the Visitor Experience Coordinator, the Programs Assistant will research and develop educational and public programming at the Surrey Museum. Specifically, they will be responsible for working collaboratively with numerous external partners on two projects: an Urban Indigenous educational kit and an Urban Indigenous youth drop-in program. Both of these projects will be completed in partnership with Urban Indigenous service and support groups throughout the City of Surrey. These programs will foster cultural understanding for non-Indigenous people, and provide culturally appropriate programming for Indigenous youth.
Days: Tuesday to Saturday
Time: 9am to 5pm
Temporary: November 13, 2018 till March 23, 2019

EMPLOYMENT STATUS
Union - CUPE Local 402 - Temporary Full-Time

RESPONSIBILITIES
???Complete research (online, at the Surrey Archives and through oral interviews).
???Purchase and accession teaching collection artifacts.
???Create an Urban Indigenous educational kit (complete with teacher instructions, hands-on artifacts, a vocabulary sheet, additional resources, archival materials and suggested learning activities).
???Organize drop-in programming for Urban Indigenous youth (including a long-term, sustainable program plan that details topics/themes, required supplies, delivery technique, and relevant background information).

QUALIFICATIONS
???Completion of Grade 12 and some post-secondary education form a recognized institution, supplemented by 2 years related experience including supervision in cultural work or area of specialty.
???Valid Emergency first aid/CPR C and AED certification.
???Applicants must meet the following to be eligible for the YWC Federal Government grant funding:
oThe successful candidate will be legally entitled to work in Canada.
oNot have another full-time job while employed.
oBe between the age of 15 and 30 years at the start of the employment.
oGraduated from a recognized post-secondary institution within the last 24 months.
oCompletion of a Master???s Degree in Museum Education or Museum Studies, or a Bachelor???s degree in education, history, anthropology or archaeology, is desirable. Successful candidates must provide proof of qualifications.
oBe willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
oNot be receiving EI benefits while employed.
oHave not previously participated in a YCW internship.
oBe registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.
