Job Description: Employees in this position perform a variety of clerical functions related to the maintenance of confidential RCMP operational files. They are responsible to: perform required clerical, and administrative tasks; collect, review, maintain, score and purge RCMP files from a variety of sources in accordance with established RCMP and municipal policies and procedures and distribute as required; maintain diary date system; compose correspondence and reports as required; process departmental mail; assist in answering incoming telephone calls, and respond to related inquiries from the public, legal firms, agencies, provincial and federal courts, and other police detachments; collect and process a variety of administration fees as required; prioritize assigned work to coincide with departmental priorities and schedules.
Duties: Responsible for the processing and maintenance of confidential RCMP operational files including reviewing, updating, scoring and purging files in accordance with RCMP policies and procedures.

Create files and input, modify and remove file data in various RCMP computer systems and programs.

Maintain diary date system and validate retention period.

Perform research on related RCMP computer systems

Assist in answering incoming calls on the switchboard.

Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources including the public, legal firms, agencies, provincial and federal courts, and other police departments in compliance with federal and provincial statutes.

Invoice, collect and process a variety of administration fees.

Process incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Compose correspondence and reports.


Prepare and maintain a variety of word processing documents, reports, spreadsheets, forms tables and manuals.

Prioritize assigned work based on the RCMP priorities and schedules.

Operate a variety of office equipment related to the performance of duties.

Provide training for new staff in related functions.

Provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff.

Participate in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.

As required, assist to perform tasks of other clerical staff in the department.
Educational Requirements: High School graduation or equivalent, supplemented by recognized training in administrative skills, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Minimum of 2 years experience, working in a demanding, multi-tasking office within a policing environment.

You will be an advanced user of RCMP/police records systems such as PRIME, CPIC or JUSTIN.
Skill Requirements: Extensive word processing and data entry skills, including the ability to type at least 60 words per minute.

Demonstrable ability to learn and apply new computer applications.

Ability to respond to a variety of difficult circumstances in an administratively sensitive manner.

Ability to prioritize and balance a variety of assigned tasks and complex procedures to meet required schedules.

Ability to maintain attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

Ability to be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Salary: $30.97 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
Additional Information: Candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain and maintain, the designated RCMP enhanced reliability clearance prior to an employment offer; preference will be given to applicants with this clearance.

The hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Wednesday for one week and Wednesday to Friday for the second week, on an alternating basis.
