Job Description: The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) is comprised of six member municipalities and eight Electoral Areas, each containing numerous unique communities, cultures and landscapes. The FVRD is one of the fastest growing regional districts in British Columbia and accommodating the region???s anticipated growth over the next 30 years will offer both opportunities and challenges.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, independent individual to fill the full-time position of Planning Technician within the Strategic Planning Department. The department focuses on the regional growth strategy (RGS), regional transit, strategic planning, economic analysis, affordable housing and homelessness, First Nations relations and other strategic areas.
Duties: Under the direction of the Manager of Strategic Planning, the Planning Technician will assist in the administration of the region???s growth strategy (RGS) and work as part of a team supporting the planning and administration of the FVRD???s expanding regional transit services. The position will also process, develop and prepare statistical reports relating to regional growth issues of varying degrees of complexity; respond to inquiries pertaining to statistical information and RGS matters; assist with the preparation of displays and related materials; and assist in the research and preparation of planning policy documents and bylaws.
Educational Requirements: ??? A degree in planning, geography, or a related discipline plus courses completed in survey techniques, GIS, map interpretation, map compilation, graphics and statistical analysis;
Skill Requirements: ??? Experience in transit planning, administration, and operation will be considered an asset in this position;
??? Must be familiar with Provincial statutes and regulations and must acquire a sound knowledge of FVRD planning legislation, and local geography;
??? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff, and the general public to provide advice, make recommendations and effective presentations;
??? Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to prepare well written technical and administrative reports.
??? Must be in possession of a valid Driver???s Licence.
Salary: The wage rate for this bargaining unit position is $30.01 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package. Upon successful completion of the required six month probationary period, the wage rate will increase to $35.31 per hour.
