Job Description: The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to twelve Paid Call Volunteer Firefighters. Ultimately reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, Paid Call firefighters work as part of a team of career and paid call firefighters to achieve an efficient and effective fire department. This is done through reliable performance of firefighting, maintenance, education, training and by observing and complying with municipal policies, department operating guidelines, and recognized safety practices.

Illustrative examples of the work include performing firefighting, technical rescue, first aid and other related services; driving and operating fire department apparatus and equipment as assigned; participating in, and maintaining cleanliness, servicing and repair of Department structures, grounds, equipment, apparatus, turnout gear and uniforms. You will be required to participate in training, drills, and practice sessions with career and other paid call personnel from this Department; and may participate in public education programs, and public relations events.

Successful candidates must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both superior Officers, Career, and Paid Call firefighters in the Township of Langley; be able to react quickly, evaluate situations, communicate information and perform duties calmly and effectively under adverse and dangerous conditions. You must have sufficient strength to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions; as well as be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English; and deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the Township of Langley; are available to attend evening practice sessions; are able to respond to calls year round, and are in good physical condition.

??? Current and valid BC Driver's License (Class 5 or better)
??? Safe driving record as demonstrated by a Drivers Abstract. You must upload a current Driver???s Abstract (select the 5 years??? option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below with your application. To obtain a copy of your Driver???s Abstract, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Copies or pictures of your driver???s license will not be accepted (More than six points in the past three years, as of the date of the application, may eliminate an applicant from consideration)
??? No criminal record (A completed RCMP Police Information Check will be required for those that successfully pass the interview process)
??? Legally entitled to work in Canada

The rate of pay for this position is $24.75 per hour (2018 rates). The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
