SCOPE
The City of Surrey provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and has a unique opportunity for qualified Special Education Early Childhood Educators. These positions are best suited to creative, collaborative individuals who enjoy working with children of disabilities. The City of Surrey follows a responsive curriculum and is committed to ensuring that every child in our program has a positive and safe experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The program activities are to encourage parent/caregiver involvement and be culturally reflective. You will take an active role in training sessions, attend group meetings, compile and maintain resources and informational material, as well as facilitate referrals for families and work closely with school personnel. Developing positive working relationships and fostering an atmosphere of trust whilst modeling and promoting best practice in early childhood development is an integral part of the role. These positions will involve working with parents and caregivers alongside their children in an inclusive, play based learning environment. The Special Education Early Childhood Educator will be responsible for:
???Setting up and maintaining a well-organized, stimulating play environment;
???Developing a variety of activities, including art, literacy, fine/gross motor skills, and constructive play;
???Encourages the development of self-esteem, oral language, social interaction, social responsibility and intercultural understanding;
???Providing parental support, in addition to building connections with schools and families.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidates will have:
???An Early Childhood Education Post Basic Diploma (ECE), and Special Needs License To Practice;
???Minimum three years??? related work experience;
???Current First Aid Certificate and CPR C with AED;
???Demonstrated experience working with children with disabilities in the 0-5 age range and;
???Experience working with adults in a facilitative role and basic computer skills are considered an asset;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to develop positive working relationships and fostering an atmosphere of trust. Important to this role is the ability to be culturally sensitive, resourceful and knowledgeable of community services in Surrey. Candidates will be required to go through a criminal record search.
