The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Recreation Centre Supervisor to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division, Recreation Programs and Services Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for performing a variety of administrative duties related to the operation and maintenance of one or more large multi-purpose facilities; directing the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of a wide variety of recreation programs and leisure service activities for adults, senior citizens, youth, children and families at one or more large recreation facilities. The successful candidate will direct the development and implementation of maintenance and custodial schedules to ensure the proper functioning of all mechanical equipment and the maintenance of established hygiene and safety standards. You will also provide liaison, advisory and resource services to the Division and a variety of external agencies and community groups regarding the coordination and provision of recreational programs and services to the community. You will monitor the performance of contract workers to ensure conformance to contract specifications and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and proven good decision making skills are required.

Your education will include University graduation in recreation or another discipline related to the work plus sound related supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the recreation program and leisure service activity needs of all age groups in the community area served; of community recreation program principles, practices and objectives; and considerable knowledge of the services provided by various community organizations, government agencies, businesses and internal staff; as well as considerable knowledge of the procedures, regulations and practices applied in the operation of one or more large multi-purpose recreation facilities is required. The successful candidate will also have sound knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; and the ability to plan, assign, supervise and review the work of subordinate employees, to interview and recommend hiring of employees, orientate and direct volunteers; as well as have the ability to obtain cooperation and diffuse situations of conflict. Experience supervising staff at a large multipurpose recreation centre with both ice and pool operations is preferred. Sound knowledge of both pool and arena operations and certifications in National Lifeguard Pool and Waterpark, National Lifeguard Instructor, Pool Operators 1 and 2, Ice Facility Operators, and Refrigeration Operators are consider assets.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $34.01 - $40.16 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are 80 hours in a 2 week period including evenings and weekends; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week
