The City of Abbotsford???s Planning & Development Services department is looking for an experienced Building Inspector I to join their dynamic team. Working under minimal supervision, the Building Inspector I is responsible for a variety of tasks as assigned by the Manager of Building Inspections.

This technical and regulatory position involves the inspection of all types of new construction and alterations to existing structures for Part 9 Buildings, to ensure that the work complies with all existing codes and regulations. You will be required to conduct inspections in accordance with the British Columbia Building Code and the City Building By-law and to enforce various municipal by-laws, codes and regulations.

Your thorough knowledge of British Columbia Building Code, City bylaws, policies and regulations along with your working knowledge of plumbing and heating regulations as well as material and labour cost will make you an asset to the team. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential in this position as the work entails extensive contact, liaison and technical guidance to a variety of internal and external customers. Your ability to interpret regulations accurately and to enforce regulations with firmness and tact to establish and maintain effective working relationship with all municipal staff, architects, tradesmen, contractors, engineers and other internal and external contacts will guide your success in this position.
In order to be considered for this position you must have:

??? Completion of grade 12 supplemented by construction experience at the journeyman level in one of the building trades.
??? One year of municipal experience working in the area of Building Code Administration, Inspection or Plan Review.
??? Valid British Columbia Drivers Licence.
??? Successful completion of the Level One Certification examination and the ability to obtain Level I certification with the Building Officials??? Association of British Columbia upon completion of eligibility (experience) requirements.
??? Ability to obtain Level II certification with the Building Officials Association of BC within 24 months of appointment.

This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $34.34 to $40.41 per hour (2015 rates).
