The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Lead Hand ??? Wastewater Systems to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Utilities Operations Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Operations Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for assigning reviewing, directing, training and participating in the work of a small group of subordinates; inspecting, maintaining, operating, servicing, installing, cleaning and repairing a variety of pumping station equipment such as pumps, control equipment, diesel, propane and natural gas standby engines, cross-connection control devices, odour control systems, gauges, counters, records and related equipment to ensure the effective operation of pumping stations. You will also monitor and respond to telemetric alarms and emergency repair calls, determining the nature of the problem and taking corrective action to restore service - assisting a technician or engineer in complex electrical and major mechanical repair work; as well as investigating main blockages, overflowing manholes, sanitary sewer connection problems and other situations, requisitioning parts, materials and equipment; preparing and maintaining records; and driving a service truck.

Your education will include completion of grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work and considerable experience in wastewater systems work, including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of pumping stations and systems; as well as considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions required; and the ability to inspect operations, diagnose and correct malfunctions and perform maintenance, repair and installation tasks on pumping equipment and systems; reading and interpreting meters and gauges is necessary.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $35.59 per hour (2015 rates). The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
