The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 2 temporary full-time (from approx. April 3, 2017 to approx. December 22, 2017) Operations Maintenance Workers to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Parks Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, you will be responsible in this unionized position for operating and maintaining a variety of large industrial gas and/or electrical tools and heavy equipment such as tractors with attachments, self-propelled grass mowers and concrete mixers; assisting in the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems; operating a dump, flat, panel or service truck of between 5,100 and 24,000 pounds GVW; as well as maintaining and repairing parks and cemeteries within the Township which includes turf management, horticulture, arboriculture, conservation areas, trails, hard surfaces, playgrounds, and park structures. You will also assist in the construction and maintenance of wooden and concrete structures, and assist with the supervision of a small group of workers performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work; and ensuring safe work practices. Your education will include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and considerable related experience in construction and/or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicants will be able to exercise considerable independent judgment, initiative and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to be involved in the performance of heavy, semi-skilled manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. It is necessary to have considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment applicable to several functional areas of Parks construction and maintenance work. This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety).
