The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Trades II - Mechanic to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Equipment and Fleet Department.

Reporting to the Equipment and Fleet Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for performing mechanical overhaul, repair, servicing, and maintenance tasks on a wide variety of automotive and heavy duty construction, maintenance, firefighting equipment and vehicles - such as rebuilding and replacing transmissions, installing and repairing rear and front-end assemblies, steering, hydraulic, pump, electrical and brake systems and other related advanced mechanical tasks. You will install and repair gas, diesel and propane motors and propane fuel systems for vehicles as well as operate various types of testing equipment used in diagnosis and repair of engines, onboard computer downloading, emission control systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, wheel alignment and braking systems (both air and hydraulic); as well as analyze test data to determine repair and servicing requirements. You may also be required to supervise one or more subordinates engaged in semi-skilled mechanical tasks.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 and a recognized apprenticeship in the trade, preferably certification as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, and experience at the journeyman level in the overhaul, repair, maintenance and servicing of machinery, equipment, vehicles and related equipment. You will have thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the automotive and heavy duty mechanical trade; as well as knowledge of the operation of a wide variety of machinery, equipment, vehicles, and related equipment and considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

??? BC CVIP Certification with Air Brake Endorsement.
??? BC Unrestricted Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside. You must upload a current Driver???s Abstract (select the 5 years??? option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below with your application. The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $36.90 per hour (2015 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
