The Township of Langley seeks applicants on an ongoing basis to augment auxiliary positions for Building Service Worker to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Division; Recreation Facilities and Programs Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position to set up rooms for rental groups, perform minor maintenance, repair and painting work as required., and operate cleaning machinery and tasks as required. You will perform the following janitorial and custodial tasks:

??? Sweep, wash, wax, and polish floors, hallways and related areas.
??? Wash hand basins, sinks, toilets, and tile work and replenish supplies in washrooms.
??? Clean windows, doors, glass partitions, and painted surfaces.
??? Perform minor maintenance, repair and painting work as required.
??? Ensure for building security,
??? Answer inquiries and gives out routine information and assistance to the public when required.
??? Work well with minimal supervision
??? Perform related work as required.

Your education will include completion of grade 12 (or equivalent) combined with some related experience. You will have good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work; the principles of operation of heating, hot water, and ventilation units; and of routine building maintenance and minor repair tasks. You will have the ability to perform simple repair and maintenance tasks on building and heating units and components; as well as to deal courteously and effectively with internal and external contacts. It is essential you have strong interpersonal skills, and be well organized. The Building Service Worker course would be an asset.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside is required. A current Driver???s Abstract (select the 5 years??? option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below must be uploaded with your application in order to be considered for this opportunity and in order for your application to be complete. A valid Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate is required.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $21.87 - $25.61 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates) plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks. Availability to work during the hours of 10:30pm ??? 7:00am is preferred.
