The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. March 1, 2017 to return of incumbent) Trades 1 - Parks to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Parks Operations Department.

Reporting to the Trees, Trails, Horticulture and Natural Areas Superintendent, you will be responsible in this unionized position for relaying instructions to and assisting with the supervision of a small group of assigned employees. You will perform similar work to and participate in the work of subordinates; performing a variety of technical tasks in the field of horticulture, including working in cooperation with other municipal crews. You will perform routine inspections as required; respond to routine public enquiries and complaints, and maintain routine records of activities in assigned areas.

Your education will include completion of grade 12, plus recognized certification in horticulture or parks maintenance plus supervisory training, and experience in horticulture, landscape installation and turf maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and materials used in construction and landscape maintenance work, including knowledge of the principles of supervision; knowledge of plant health care management t; and the ability to perform a variety of technical tasks in the field of horticulture requiring some independent judgement in construction and maintenance operations. You will also have the ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with minimum supervision, as well as to prepare and interpret landscape plans; maintain routine records and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy, manual outdoor work in all weather.

A Pesticide Applicators License ??? Landscape General and a valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside is required. A current Driver???s Abstract (select the 5 years??? option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below must be uploaded with your application in order to be considered for this opportunity and in order for your application to be complete. This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $32.35 per hour (2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
