The Township of Langley, through partnership with BC Hydro, is seeking to fill a temporary full time (from approx. February 14, 2017 to approx. January 31, 2018) Community Energy Manager to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Strategic Initiatives Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Energy and Solid Waste, you will be responsible in this exempt position, for being the catalyst for the transition to more sustainable energy systems and a community that is less reliant on conventional energy and more resilient in a future of uncertain energy supply. Working across departments, you will investigate and advance policies and programs to reduce the community???s need for grid supplied energy. Through such policies, you will contribute to the development of complete, livable and sustainable communities in the Township of Langley; a Community of Communities. Key deliverables include a measured reduction in grid supplied energy (including electricity) and implementation of the energy and climate change objectives of the Township of Langley???s Sustainability Charter and Official Community Plan. The successful applicant will be a dynamic and skilled professional, able to create the foundation for a profound reduction in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions community-wide. This temporary full-time position is for one year with the possibility of extension.

Your education will include a minimum of five years??? experience working as an energy and/or sustainability specialist, preferably for municipal government. You have a degree in sustainability, resource management, or public policy (graduate degree preferred or supplemented by professional designation); or be a Registered Professional Engineer, Registered Planner, Registered Engineering Technologist; or Certified Energy Manager (designated through the Association of Energy Engineers); or be eligible for Registration and fully registered within 6 months of hire; or hold a Masters designation in a related business field; or have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Any of the following additional accreditation is also desirable: Energy efficiency training such as CIET Energy Management Training Course; LEED professional accreditation; Project Management Professional (PMP); Change Management or Multi-Objective Decision Making.

You have proven capability in project management, community engagement, and collaborative initiatives that demonstrate excellence in leadership, communication, analysis, building capacity, teamwork and implementation skills that are critical to success in this position. Substantive knowledge in the field of community energy and carbon management is required, as is experience with local government processes and relevant legislation and bylaws.
