The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Recreation Programmer to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division; Recreation Facilities and Programs Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be directly responsible for the day-to-day planning, coordinating and scheduling of recreation activities for the Township of Langley at the Walnut Grove Community Centre. Team work, initiative and a strong background in all types of recreation programming, including working with community groups, volunteers, and participants of all ages are essential. Duties will also include organizing and coordinating special events, scheduling and evaluating staff and some facility supervision. Candidates must also be prepared to conduct training sessions for staff and ensure equipment maintenance schedules are consistently maintained.

Your education includes university graduation in recreation or a related discipline or completion of a certificate program in community recreation or a related discipline at a recognized institution supplemented by courses related to the area of assignment, and several years??? experience including experience in the area of assignment. You will have sound knowledge of the principles, philosophy, objectives and the means to develop and administer recreation programs and events with a particular emphasis on program areas assigned; knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of the particular target group(s) assigned and the methods of determining those needs, as well as sound knowledge of the programming requirements, standards and leadership methods and teaching techniques in one or more of the following areas: amateur sports, physical fitness, arts and crafts, aquatics, arenas, social and cultural, ethnic, for all ages and abilities. Experience with programming in a municipal environment and a university degree is considered an asset.

Emergency First Aid, CPR Certification and a valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside is required. A current Driver???s Abstract (select the 5 year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below must be uploaded with your application in order to be considered for this opportunity and in order for your application to be complete. The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $28.90 - $34.01 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are Tuesday 12:00 ??? 9:00pm; Wednesday to Saturday 8:30am ??? 5:30pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
