Job Description: Parks, Recreation & Culture is responsible for ensuring the coordination of the Emergency Social Services Program component of the City’s overall Emergency Plan.

The Emergency Social Services Program Leader performs community service work in the coordination and implementation of the Emergency Social Services Program. As the Program Leader, you are responsible for assisting in the coordination of the City’s Emergency Social Services Program and will carry out a variety of organizational and administrative responsibilities related to the planning and implementation of the program. These include assisting in the recruitment, retention and appreciation of volunteers, development of a quarterly ESS Newsletter, coordinating staff and volunteer training programs, building relationships with suppliers and creating the establishment and maintenance of supplier agreements for services (food, clothing, lodging), act as a liaison with support programs and community organizations, attend meetings to promote public awareness at community events and assist in the development and exercise of response plans.



Educational Requirements: The successful applicant must have completed Grade 12, some post-secondary education from a recognized institution, supplemented by 2 years related experience including supervision in community service work or area of specialty or and equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience. Emergency Social Services training such as Reception Centre Course, Managing Walk-In Volunteers or Group Lodging Course would be considered relevant post secondary education. Knowledge of operation of standard office equipment including a computer terminal and software applications related to the work performed is required. A valid BC Driver’s License with a safe driving history and an Occupational First Aid Level One Certificate is required.

The hours and days of work will vary and will be scheduled to address the priorities and operational needs of the program. Some evening and weekend work will be expected. The hours of work will be approximately 20-25 hours /week.
