| Job Description: |
We are currently offering an exciting opportunity in the Utilities Environment section of our Engineering Department, for a dynamic, self motivated professional with proven skills, energy and creativity.
Reporting to the Utilities Environment Manager, the Utilities Environment Technologist performs technical and administrative duties and assists staff with work related to Commercial and Institutional (ICI) Source Control programs; Biosolids monitoring and recycling programs; Laboratory data monitoring; and Storm Water Systems. The incumbent works under general supervision and exercises independent judgment and action, with support from the Manager who reviews work in terms of technical adequacy, conformance to standards and practices and achievement of desired objectives.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Investigate sources of unusual wastewater and analyze pollutants; assist in collection and preparation of samples.
• Coordinate and perform inspections of facilities and meet with Industrial representatives and specialists regarding compliance, permit requirements and pretreatment issues.
• Review monitoring lab data reports; maintain data records and files regarding permit and compliance reports and monitoring status; ensure timely receipt of lab results; assist in calculating surcharges, sewer bills; and identifying ICI non-compliance with permit standards.
• Assist in development, implementation, and education of pollution prevention strategies, codes of practices and best management practices.
• Respond to enquiries from public, industry, and other departments about the Source Control and Biosolids programs.
• Develop marketing and distribution strategies for Val-E-GroTM
• Develop biosolids utilization strategies.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in biology/chemistry/soils or environmental science.
• Minimum of 2 years related experience in environmental monitoring and coordination of biosolids utilization projects.
• Must have sound knowledge of land application, storage, and distribution of Biosolids as directed under the Organic Matter Recycling Regulations.
• Eligibility for membership in the Association of Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC at the technologist level or membership.
• Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Valid BC Driver’s License.
