Job Description: We are currently offering an exciting opportunity in our newly created Economic Development & Planning Services Department, for a dynamic, self motivated professional with proven skills, energy and creativity of a Senior Planner/Deputy Approving Officer. As an integral team player, you will be part of achieving the vision of Abbotsford as the most sustainable, livable, and prosperous City in British Columbia for the rapidly growing City of Abbotsford. Are you up for the challenge of joining our team of highly motivated professionals to build the future success of Abbotsford through key partnerships of stakeholders, including the development industry?
Duties: Specific responsibilities will include:

• Provide professional planning expertise on complex and diverse projects in the development and achievement of the community’s goals.

• Policy development and research, and a focus on managing highly complex development applications, and the subdivision approval function as a Deputy Approving Officer.

• Interacting with development proponents, staff from a variety of departments and government agencies, and the public.

• Be a problem-solver, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be expected to develop innovative solutions and approaches to reconcile issues.

Educational Requirements: You have a degree in Community Planning or related field plus at least 8 years of community planning experience preferably with a local government or the private development industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience; along with eligibility for full membership in the Planning Institute of BC; posses thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and laws relating to community planning including urban design, current literature, trends and issues; valid BC Driver’s License.
