The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. March 1, 2010 to approx. October 29, 2010) Labourer to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Operations – Utilities Department.

Reporting to the Working Foreman Sewers the successful applicant will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment applicable to the various functional areas of utilities construction and utilities maintenance work. You must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Exercising some independent judgment and initiative, you will be responsible for:
• Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of sewer works infrastructure. The work may include lift station cleaning and maintenance, force main air release valve maintenance and repair; and collection system cleaning, maintenance and repair.
• Driving a pick-up truck to transport materials and tools to job sites.
• Performing other related work as required.

It is essential for you to have completion of Grade 10, some experience in general Utility sewers maintenance work, and a valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC driver’s license. An EOCP Wastewater Collection – Level 1 certificate would be an asset.

The CUPE rate of pay is $23.96 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
